After adventuring around the world, I’m home for my first English Christmas in three years. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of reading my 23 journals that I’ve sent home from each of the countries I’ve visited. When I journal, I tend not to focus on what I’ve done per se but rather on what I’ve learned from my experiences and who I’ve met.

So without further ado, here are 51 nuggets of wisdom gained from 2 years travelling the world:

Please note – nothing’s right, nothing’s wrong here; I’m constantly questioning my own belief system and striving to become a better person.

  1. The best gift you can give someone is the purity of your full presence.
  2. Nature is always cheaper than therapy or medication.
  3. Replace I should with I will.
  4. Work to become, not to acquire.
  5. Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.
  6. What’s important is how you act when no one else is looking.
  7. Live in the future and you’ll experience anxiety. Live in the past and you’ll experience depression. Live in the now and you’ll experience freedom.
  8. You can imitate an idea but you can’t replicate passion.
  9. You don’t need to be told what to think, you need to be shown how to think.
  10. The greatest gain is to give to others. The greatest loss is to receive without gratitude.
  11. If you treat people like children you’ll get children’s work.
  12. Remember, another person’s reality is just as valid as yours.
  13. Wisdom, simply put, is the application of experience.
  14. Perfection is the lowest standard you could strive towards because nothing is ever perfect.
  15. When you change the way you look at things the things you look at change.
  16. If you make a mistake and do not correct it, you can be sure that it’s a mistake.
  17. Drop expectations and you’ll rarely be disappointed.
  18. If you don’t ask then the answer is already NO.
  19. Create more than you consume.
  20. The harder you work, the luckier you get.
  21. Ideas are abundant; execution is scarce.
  22. Dream big, start small.
  23. Greatness is lots of small things done well.
  24. If it’s important enough, you’ll find a way. If it’s not, you’ll find an excuse.
  25. We must not talk, we must do.
  26. Better busy than bored.
  27. Retreat in another direction is by no means surrender.
  28. If you ask someone to only say what you want to hear, you are asking to be lied to.
  29. You are never going to be complete so strive instead for contentment.
  30. Embrace simplicity. Manifest plainness. Reduce selfishness.
  31. It is impossible to fail if you never give up.
  32. You must take 100% responsibility for everything that happens in your life, even when you think it’s not your fault.
  33. Never allow someone to be your priority while allowing yourself to be their option.
  34. Play, not work, is the key to success.
  35. Don’t get lost in expectations.
  36. There are never any failures, just results.
  37. Place your focus on possibilities not limitations.
  38. Deciding what not to do is as important as deciding what to do.
  39. Time is the true currency, and choices are true wealth.
  40. You are what you think about each and every day.
  41. Proactive approaches are more effective than Reactive approaches.
  42. Success begets success.
  43. If it were easy then everybody would be doing it.
  44. If time is the truest form of wealth, we are all born equally wealthy.
  45. Always find time to celebrate your wins, no matter how small.
  46. Always look for the seed of benefit when you experience a temporary setback.
  47. Love will always dilute evil.
  48. Your outer world reflects the state of your inner mind.
  49. Exercise is the most underutilised antidepressant.
  50. Success is directly proportional to the amount of time you spend doing the things you love.
  51. Want to know what chocolate ice cream is like? Then taste it.
